Tranquil Closes it's Doors
By the time you read this, Tranquil, beloved bar and bistro, will have closed its doors. The 1904 building on the corner of Pine and Fayette Streets has seen customers of all kinds since the restaurant opened nine years ago. We loved going for brunch, a French-American dinner, or some sassy showtunes on a Sunday night. We want to thank Tranquil for giving us a place to grab a drink just slightly off the beaten path, and for being the perfect culinary companion to at night at Know Theatre. We can still see the flickering of a vintage film projected onto the brick wall behind the bar; we laugh remembering the kid who stuck his head through the curtain at the door and asked, “Is this a gay place?” Kid – Tranquil was a place for everyone. We’re have the feeling that it will remain a restaurant, even if it reopens under a different name. But Tranquil, as it was, will be remembered fondly.
