TWO BALLETS, ONE EVENING AT ANDERSON CENTER
Romeo & Juliet and Carmen will both be performed as full-length, one-act ballets by the Russian National Ballet Theatre. Romeo & Juliet, not surprisingly, is based on William Shakespeare’s tragic tale of two star-crossed lovers whose families are mortal enemies. Carmen, as in the famous opera, tells the story of a soldier who is in love with a cigarette vendor who loves her freedom above all else, leading to a tragic conclusion. Elena Radchenko, founder of the RNB and legendary Bolshoi principal dancer says, “One of our goals is to reach audiences in smaller places, not just large cities. We wish to give people the opportunity to experience classical Russian ballet, one of Russia’s great cultural heritages as passed down to us through the ages.” Performances are Wednesday, April 5th in the Osterhout Theater of the Anderson Center for the Performing Arts on the Binghamton University campus in Vestal. Curtain is 7:30pm. Ticket prices are $45 for the general public, $40 for seniors and BU alumni, and $22 for students and children (special 4-Pack is available for $110).
