ALTARED/ALTERED STATES AT COOPERATIVE GALLERY 213
Gallery co-f0unders Judy Salton and MaryRose are featured in a new installation exhibit opening First Friday. As described by the artists, the exhibit “explores the form of the altarpiece placed in a chapel-like setting, but without religious connotations. Judy Salton venerates the arts - music, dance, and theatre - using the techniques of carving, mosaic tiles, paintings, and drawings to create her altars. MaryRose combines her sense of the altarpiece, Stations of the Cross, and Renaissance wunderkammer. Housed in wooden wall cabinets are paper tapestries transcribed from Baroque still-lifes attributed to Caravaggio.”
The June 2nd opening reception takes place from 3-9pm and includes an artists’ talk at 7pm. A closing reception brunch will be held on Sunday, June 25th from 11am-2pm. Cooperative Gallery 213 is located at 213 State Street in Binghamton. It is open First Fridays from 3-9pm, regular Fridays from 3-6pm, and Saturdays from 12-4pm.
