BINGHAMTON’S FIRST FRIDAY ART WALK

On June 2nd, First Friday includes more than 30 venues throughout Binghamton’s Downtown and the West and South Sides from 6-9pm (unless otherwise noted). In addition to the First Friday opening receptions listed separately at Brunelli Fine Arts, Broome County Arts Council, Cooperative Gallery 213, and the Salati Gallery (see cover story), the visual arts are well represented at a number of locations. The Bundy Museum plays host to three exhibits: Unmasked Illusions presents paintings by Angela Cook in the 3rd Floor Gallery (through July 3rd), Understanding the Landscape of Upstate through the Hudson River School is on display in the 2nd Floor Gallery (through August 29th), and Binghamton, America features photographs by O. T Pony in Binghamton Photo’s 1st Floor Gallery (located at 32 Cedar St. and on display through July 3rd). Opening receptions for all three exhibits take place from 6-9pm. The Pop-Up Art Gallery/Exhibit, located at the rear entrance of the Forum, presents Jasmine’s Metal Art. The unique metal art creations by Jasmine Rutschmann are on view for one day only, June 2nd, from 6-9pm. Another one-day-only exhibit takes place from 6-9pm at HealthLinkNY, where the oil paintings of Maureen Van Nostrand are on display in Breathtaking Beauty. At Doc Concrescence Kava/Tea/Elixir Bar & Social Club, the work of Mary Blaise Turgeon can be seen in show titled The Riddle of Eyes. Consisting of a 20-foot long scroll made up of 17 pieces, it explores the relationship between life and death through cycles of growth and development. Additionally, several other illustrations are on display. Giraffe prints in honor of April, Broome County’s celebrity giraffe, will be given out with the purchase of two cups of kava. Lost Dog Café plays features contemporary abstract expressions of E. B. Schott in a show titled Bloody Tears II. A meet-the-artist reception takes place in the lounge from 6-8pm, followed by music by Ultra Vibe from 9pm-12am. And at Gallery at 5 Riverside Drive/Towers, art-walkers can view Wax in Motion/Contemplation, encaustic paintings by Danette Matteo on display throughout the month.
