14TH ANNUAL PLAYWRIGHTS AND ARTISTS FESTIVAL IN THE KNOW

This festival is an important part of KNOW Theatre’s season; it is about inspiration and interpretation. The challenge is for playwrights to look at three chosen pieces of artwork and see where inspiration takes them - and each of the journeys are unique. After blind reading the plays, KNOW had to whittle 90 plays down to six - two for each artwork. And this year they are bringing back the element of music to the collaboration. Now it is you, the audience, whose turn it is to go and be a part of the process. For a playwright there is nothing better than seeing his or her work fleshed out onstage, and in seeing it also receive feedback. Each night of the weekend KNOW chooses one artwork and the two plays inspired by it. The plays are performed, after which there will be a talkback that includes the playwright, the composer, the director, and actors. They also like to include the artists if possible. This makes for an exciting night of theatre.

Festival nights are November 17 through 19 and November 24 through 26 at the KNOW Theatre, 74 Carroll Street in Binghamton. Each evening, performances begin at 8pm. Cost is $15 per night or $25 for the entire weekend. For tickets or more information visit knowtheatre.org or call (607) 724-4341.
